POWER.VPN · WHAT IS A VPN?
A virtual private network routes traffic through an encrypted connection to a VPN server. Here is the practical idea behind a personal VPN.
A compatible client starts the connection.
Routed traffic passes through a separate endpoint.
Usually sees the VPN exit IP for that traffic.
GOOD TO KNOW
Practical details for your next connection.
Your device connects to a VPN server, and the server forwards routed traffic towards its destination. The encrypted part between your device and the VPN endpoint is often called a tunnel. Which traffic enters it depends on the client and its configuration.
A personal VPN is commonly used for an extra layer of privacy on everyday internet connections. A workplace VPN may instead be designed to reach an organisation’s internal systems. A personal subscription is not a substitute for your employer’s access system.
Check the provider’s policies, compatible clients, device rules and subscription terms. Understand what the service actually offers rather than assuming that every VPN has the same features. A short test can be useful once trial access is available.
YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
